A Rochdale councillor who stepped back from his duties due to ill health has claimed that he experienced "bullying and intimidation" from some members at the local authority.
Councillor Peter Allonby, of the Middleton Independents Party (MIP), alleged to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) that members of rochdale-council>Rochdale council have tried to stop him speaking during meetings, and laughed in his face after he shared ideas.
He said the behaviour of some members has damaged his mental health and impacted his work as a councillor. Rochdale council said it is "not aware of any complaints from Coun Allonby" regarding councillors' conduct. At some meetings, I have been directly laughed at in my face when I put forward suggestions. "Most of it is personal abuse on Facebook, mostly from Labour supporters.
