Coronation Street confirms what definitely won't happen with Christmas 'treat' for Peter and Carla fans before exit

Coronation Street has confirmed what we definitely won't see from Peter Barlow ahead of his exit from Weatherfield. Actor Chris Gascoyne briefly revealed in July that he will be leaving the role after becoming the seventh actor to play Ken Barlow's son in 2000.

But a Coronation Street spokesperson said at the time that the door is 'left open' - meaning the 55-year-old could return in the future.

Chris later shared how he was pleased that the end of villain Stephen Reid opened up the door for his own character's exit - with Peter being the one to stop the serial killer by mowing him down dead in the street. "It just came together at the right time," he said earlier this month. "I've learned a bit more about Peter than I knew before.
