Older Britons could be in for a financial windfall, as experts are encouraging them to perform a DWP benefits check that might boost their income by a whopping £8,300.

Pension Credit, which is designed to top up weekly income and unlock additional support, is currently being under-claimed, with 40% of eligible individuals not taking advantage of the benefit.

On average, claimants receive an extra £4,000, but there's a treasure trove of other perks too. Joanna Elson, chief executive of Independent Age, has emphasised the value of claiming Pension Credit. "Even if you only receive an extra pound through Pension Credit, it is still worth claiming because of the additional entitlements you can access," she said.

She's also highlighted the significance of claiming in light of the UK Government's plans to means-test the Winter Fuel Payment, explaining that: "With the UK Government's proposed changes to make the Winter Fuel Payment means-tested including to people on Pension Credit it's more important than ever that everyone receives what they are entitled to." Joanna has pointed out that beyond the Winter Fuel Payment, which ranges from £100 to £300 to assist with energy bills during winter, Pension Credit opens the door to a plethora of financial benefits potentially worth nearly £8,000 annually, reports the Express.
