Black Panther star dies after 'medical procedure' as tributes flood in

Award-winning actress Connie Chiume, who is best known for her role in Black Panther, has died at the age of 72.The star died in hospital in Johannesburg, her family have announced.The South African star played Zawavari, a member of the Wakandan tribal council and former leader of the mining tribe in the hugely successful Marvel movie Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever alongside Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett and the late Chadwick Boseman.

Her family of two sons and two daughters announced her passing in a statement on Instagram that said: “The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume.

Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on 6 August 2024.The Family asks for privacy during this difficult period.The family will communicate further details.” Her son Nongelo gave a brief interview to Newzroom Afrika : “She was admitted for a medical procedure.
