The battery of shrouded female dancers remained from the earlier phases of the tour, as did the stadium-filling light show and its state of the art lightshow, which flashed projected mostly white and red lights from multiple elevated areas of the stadium as well as the stage and runway.

With “The Life Of Chuck,” horror impresario Mike Flanagan brings yet another King tale to the big screen, his third straight after “Doctor Sleep” and “Gerald’s Game.” Despite containing the expected horror and sci-fi elements, “The Life Of Chuck” is a bit of a departure for both King and Flanagan as it is a straight drama for much of its runtime—veering closer in tone to “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile” than, say, “The Shining.

It’s also an unusually inquisitive look at the bonds that exist between men: their tribes, rituals and — ultimately — their responsibilities. Central to its very primal depiction of the gulf between left and right is star Vincent Lindon as Pierre, a widowed father of young men in provincial France who tries in vain to stop his eldest son becoming radicalized by his friends and by online hate groups; Lindon’s soulful turn rightly snagged him the festival’s Best Actor award.

Just a few months after the first three-hour installment of Kevin Costner‘s legacy project had its lackluster premiere at Cannes, his second slab of Western fudge has launched in Venice. There are more snow-topped mountains in Montana, more bars bathed in golden gaslight, more shoot-outs, more lines of wagons moving ever westward ho. Costner obviously loves classic Westerns, including his own — he allows himself a callback to Wyatt Earp — and these are all treasurable, time-honored motifs of the genre. Piling them high over hours and hours does not, however, mean that the result will be all the more classically magnificent. It just means there will be a lot of it, whatever it is.
