BBC's Antiques Roadshow unfolded a heartwarming tale when a guest named Julia introduced expert Adam Schoon to her grandmother Lucy Morton's swimming memorabilia, including an Olympic gold medal from Paris 1924.During the show, Julia shared how her grandmother was encouraged to take up swimming as a young girl after being labelled a "dunce" at school by her father.Schoon engaged with Julia's story, enquiring: "Swimming medals, swimming badges and a photograph, who is it? " to which she replied with the story of her grandmother's start in the sport at the age of 10 and her remarkable journey to becoming an Olympic champion.Discussing the collection, Schoon highlighted various county and national medals that Morton had won on her way to Olympic gold, noting: "All of these are 15-carat gold but of course, all these smaller medals build up to really this one here." Intriguingly, Julia also discussed Lucy Morton's run-up to the Olympics, revealing, "In 1923, they actually became very interested in her and they asked her to start swimming in preparation for the 1924 Paris Olympics."When asked if she had the swimming prowess of her grandmother, Julia playfully remarked she could "swim a length" so enough "to save my life".The guest recounted the historic moment: "She trained and she went to Paris in 1924.
