Babies and toddlers will enjoy hearing stories and songs from pupils at Lanarkshire high school

Pupils at a high school in South Lanarkshire are set to host their own Bookbug sessions for babies and toddlers.The S6 pupils at Calderside Academy in Blantyre have been trained to provide the sessions by teachers, who attended training courses on delivering the Bookbug sessions.The Bookbug programme is an initiative set up by the Scottish Book Trust with the help of the Scottish Government.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Activities will include story, song and rhyme games for babies, toddlers, preschool children and their families.The first session will be Halloween-themed and fancy dress and dressing up is welcomed and encouraged.Two teachers from Calderside attended training courses on delivering the Bookbug sessions, who in turn trained a number of the S6 pupils.

They are all looking forward to the sessions beginning.Ms Findlay, one of the teaching staff involved, said: “This is a great way for young people from the school to give back to the community.
