Pixies and Modest Mouse have announced their joint 2024 US tour with Cat Power which is set to kick off later this year.The co-headlining tour will see Power provide opening support and is set to kick off on Friday, May 31 at the Firefly Distillery in Charleston, South Carolina. From there, the are set to make stops in major cities such as Nashville, Atlanta, Pittsburg, Toronto, Philadelphia, Queens, Mansfield, Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Austin, Irving and more.The tour will wrap up on Sunday, June 30 at Fiddler’s Green in Denver, Colorado.

Cat Power and Iggy Pop have covered ‘Working Class Hero’ in an upcoming tribute album to Marianne Faithfull.Back in November, it was announced that a Faithfull covers album was in the works, with the likes of Shirley Manson and Peaches set to duet on ‘Why D’Ya Do It’.Now, Cat Power and Iggy Pop have teamed up to cover ‘Working Class Hero’, originally written by John Lennon and covered by Faithfull herself in her album ‘Broken English’ (1979).In a statement, Power said of Faithfull: “Marianne has lived a life!! She is a queen to all who know her, and all who adore her! Her framework of contributions to the world of music is unmistakable! Every time I hear her gorgeous vocal sway, I am moved, I am closer to permanence. Pixies, Modest Mouse and Cat Power have announced a joint tour of North America – see all the dates below and buy tickets here.The three bands will hit the road in August and September, and they come in addition to upcoming May dates for Pixies in support of their new album ‘Doggerel’.The tour begins in Asbury Park, New Jersey on August 20, running for the following month before finishing up in San Diego, California on September 16.See the full list of tour dates below. Cat Power, aka Chan Marshall has today (April 21) shared a new video for her cover of The Pogues hit, ‘A Pair Of Brown Eyes’ – check out the video below.The video has been directed by Paterson director Jim Jarmusch and it’s the first time the pair have collaborated on a work together.Speaking about the project, Jarmusch said: “As someone who deeply loves Cat Power’s music, getting to collaborate with [Cat Power] on this video was like a dream come true,”“She’s so inspiring to me, of course as an artist, but she’s also just such an extraordinary person.”Watch the video here:The track is taken from Power’s latest album, ‘Covers’, which sees the musician interpreting other people’s songs.In a review of the album, NME said: “There’s nothing in the world like a Cat Power cover version. American filmmaker Jim Jarmusch has directed the new music video for Cat Power‘s version of The Pogues’ “A Pair of Brown Eyes” (see below) from her new album Covers, which is currently out on Domino Records. A director widely considered one of the film industry’s most original and unique minds, Jarmusch’s filmography includes acknowledged classics such as “Down By Law,” “Stranger Than Paradise,” “Night On Earth,” and the Forest Whitaker action pic “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.” It’s also worth mentioning Jarmusch’s musical reach is similarly pathbreaking, having worked with luminaries Tom Waits, Neil Young, RZA, GZA, Joe Strummer, Iggy Pop, and more.

Cat Power, has revealed that Lana Del Rey was one of the few people to reach out to her after she was dropped by her label, Matador.In an interview with NME, Marshall shared that Del Rey invited her out on the road during a difficult time in her career.“When I was told that my last record ‘Wanderer’ was no good, there was a year where I didn’t have a label,” she told NME. “There’s about 200 people that were affiliated with what I thought was my family who never checked in with me… [I thought], ‘I guess I can sell my apartment and I’ll just raise my son, I’ll move somewhere and try to get into writing… I’m a really good waitress and cook and stuff, and I can just get a good stable job and start a different career’.”At the time Marshall said that she felt “totally not part of any musical community” and “dumped by my family”.

Cat Power has shared a cover of ‘Pa Pa Power’ by Dead Man’s Bones, the duo of Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields.Chan Marshall’s new version of the song – the original featured on Dead Man’s Bones eponymous (and thus far only) 2009 album – is lifted from her forthcoming ‘Covers’ LP, which is due to arrive on January 14. The record has already been previewed with renditions of Frank Ocean‘s ‘Bad Religion’ and ‘A Pair of Brown Eyes’ by The Pogues.The cover arrives alongside a Greg Hunt-directed video that sees Marshall performing the song under blue lights, filmed at The Echo in Los Angeles.

Cat Power has confirmed details of a covers album, due for release in 2022. The album, aptly titled Covers, is due on January 14 via Domino Records.
