Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Anna Kendrick couldn’t make it to Friday’s TIFF world premiere of her feature directorial debut, Woman of the Hour.
The film did not have a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement. Kendrick also stars in the movie, which follows Rodney Alcala (Daniel Zovatto), a killer in the midst of a killing spree when he brazenly took part and won a date on the popular TV game show The Dating Game.
In the pic, Kendrick plays bachelorette Cheryl Bradshaw, who appears on the dating show. The producers read the following statement from the Oscar nominee before the start of the pic: “[This] film festival has proven time and time again that it is an artist-driven festival, and it has been my absolute honor to have TIFF as part of my career for the last 14 years,” read Kendrick’s statement. “I truly can’t express how proud I am to have the world premiere of Woman of the Hour at TIFF.
It is more than a dream come true. I am heartbroken to not be with you all in this moment.” Kendrick added, “I so wish they could be there to be celebrated in the way they richly deserve.
