The event, held in Stockport Exchange and led by Councillor Mark Hunter, leader of Stockport Council, was centered around the ‘Next Stop Stockport’ plans to help shape the future of transport in the borough.
The round table talk saw the leaders discuss a variety of major projects coming to the borough, including the latest news around bringing the Metrolink to Stockport and the redevelopment of Stockport railway station.
There are also ambitious plans to make the transport network as clean, green and sustainable as possible. The projects discussed during the meeting included: READ MORE M60 shut for 12 HOURS after lorry overturns near Trafford Centre in Storm Pia winds with emergency services at scene all day READ MORE Police cordon in place after 'shooting' outside McDonald's Councillor Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “Stockport has delivered in recent years – both in terms of regenerating our town centre and improving our existing infrastructure. “The area around the station is all set to be transformed into homes for more than 7,000 more people – the town needs transport infrastructure that keeps up with the 21st century and makes this a truly neighbourhood that inspires future generations. “We believe that we have a social and economic case to bring Metrolink to Stockport, but there is still a lot of work to do.” He continued: "The new multi-million-pound Transport Interchange, which will open in March next year, has been designed and built in a way that could accommodate the arrival of Metrolink.
