Alton Towers theme park founder and 'visionary' dies aged 80

The founder of Alton Towers, John Broome, has died aged 80. Mr Broome, who transformed the Staffordshire theme park into one of the UK's biggest tourist attractions, was born in 1943 and went on to have a far-reaching impact on the tourism industry, our sister site, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.

His memory and legacy will continue to inspire and guide us." The British businessman who was born in 1943 began his career as a property developer in the 1970s, when he founded his own company, Broome Park Estates.
