A hero neighbour who shielded victims of the Southport stabbings has told how a young girl collapsed after running into his home telling him "I think I'm dying".Steve, who lives next door to the centre where three young girls were killed and eight children injured on Monday, has now spoken to ITV News about how the horror unfolded.

The 66-year-old told how he rushed out to help the victims after being alerted to screaming from across the road following the attack on a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. He thought it was a group of children playing tig at first - but after the screaming did not stop, he raced out into the street and a girl ran towards him.

As reported by the Mirror, she put her arms around him and said: "I've been stabbed, I think I'm dying".He said he told her "you're not dying, right everybody get in here", before helping the children inside and locking the door.

Steve's wife looked after the children for "an hour". He then armed himself with a hammer and headed towards The Hart Space community centre, where the attacker was still inside.
