Southport stabbings murder suspect, 17, is named as Axel Rudakubana

The 17-year-old boy who has been charged in connection with the Southport stabbings has been named as Axel Rudakubana. Judge Andrew Menary KC, Honorary Recorder of Liverpool, lifted a reporting restriction this morning (August 1) which had previously prevented the boy's name from being made public due to his age.

He made the ruling at Liverpool Crown Court after an application from the media. It was revealed that Rudakubana would have lost anonymity when he turns 18 next Wednesday.

The teenager is from the Banks area in Lancashire. Eight other children suffered knife wounds – with five of them left in a critical condition – while two adults were also critically hurt.
