As cars tried to make their way through Lloyd Street South in Fallowfield, a line of blue, black and brown bins carefully positioned across the road blocked access.

Beyond the row of bins lay a police cordon where emergency services were parked up and responding to a tragic incident. Just before 3pm on Saturday (September 16), Police, paramedics, the fire service and an air ambulance were all called to reports of concerns for the welfare of a man at an address on the street.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said in a statement the man was believed to be involved in a workplace accident and they were investigating to understand the circumstances behind the incident. It's just so sad.” Just metres down from the scene, the brightly coloured bins lining the road became a makeshift cordon. Residents said they saw the response from the emergency services and felt inclined to help. “You just have to do what you can,” one neighbour, who says he has lived on Lloyd Street for ten years, says as he directs traffic away from the road. “We don’t know each other by first name terms here but we’re still a close knit community.
