XTR’s Documentary+ Moves Into Distribution, Eyes Non-Fiction Acquisitions
deadline.comEXCLUSIVE: Documentary+, the ad-supported streaming platform launched by Bryn Mooser’s XTR, is moving into distribution.
The company is launching a distribution division and is looking to acquire hot non-fiction projects at industry festivals and markets.
The plan is to acquire films and give them “bespoke” release strategies – ranging from eventized theatrical exhibition to TVOD partnerships and other digital windowing – before premiering exclusively on Documentary+.
The service launched in 2021 and averages over 3M monthly users. It houses projects from filmmakers such as Oliver Stone, Alex Winter, Taryn Southern, Roger Ross Williams, Errol Morris, The Ross Brothers, Lauren DeFilippo, and Brett Morgen as well as originals including The Sentence of Michael Thompson.
