Woman shocked to discover car trapped after Dumfries parking spot sinks
dailyrecord.co.ukStylist Chloe Carmichael had a hair-raising experience after parking her car in the Whitesands. She returned to the Audi A4 at the water front car park only to find her vehicle was trapped after a chunk of the area had sunk overnight.
Chloe, 26, from Dumfries, said: “It was terrible, really, to see it. “I had parked there at the Dockhead car park near the suspension bridge on a Sunday afternoon. “I then returned on the Monday morning to see it had sunk into the ground. “I have been driving for three years and nothing like this has ever happened to me before. “And hopefully it never will again. “When I first saw it from a distance I thought that my car had a flat tyre. “But then when I got closer I could see it had sunk into the ground. “I think it must have happened after all the heavy rain there was that weekend. “And maybe it softened the area that had been worked on.
I just returned to the car and it was like that. “The ground had caved in.” Chloe, who works at a town centre salon, called a local garage and her car was towed out to reveal minor damage underneath.
She added: “The guy from the garage worked wonders to get my car out. “Underneath my car is quite scratched and I will get it checked out for any other damage. “I wasn’t working on the Monday.” Councillor David Slater said: “The owner got quite a shock to find their car had been partly swallowed by the car park.
