A dual carriageway in Tameside was closed tonight after a double-decker bus caught fire. It happened around 9pm this evening (Wednesday) on the A6140 Lord Sheldon Way in Ashton.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said a blaze broke out involving the diesel-hybird vehicle.

It is not known if any passengers were on board at the time. Emergency services were scrambled with police closing the road, which is dissected by the tram lines, in both directions.

Two fire engines from Phillips Park and Ashton attended.
