West Lothian gymnasts bring home eight medals from Disability Championships

A pair of West Lothian gymnasts proved they’re amongst the best of British after scooping a remarkable eight medals at the Disability British Championships.Bathgate’s Megan Docherty and Sophie Barnett of West Calder were in terrific form as the West Lothian Artistic Gymnastics duo impressed in Lilleshall.Megan (18) was competing in the Open Senior events and bagged herself silver in the All Around and Vault as well as a trio of bronzes for Bars, Beams and Floor.Her team-mate Sophie (13) picked up a pair of silvers and a bronze in the Open Junior events - sealing second in All Around and Vault whilst picking up the bronze in Bars.The pair’s performances left club head coach John Campbell ‘hugely proud’ while the girls’ coach also Sarah Dunn heaped praise.John said: “We’re immensely proud of both of them and what they have achieved but that’s the case without these results anyway because they are brilliant gymnasts with a tremendous work ethic.“We’ve always been proud of them but it’s great to see them rewarded with these results on a national stage.“They both train so hard and put in a lot of hours and everyone at the club is delighted with their results.”The competition was a qualifying event for the British Masters, which are due to take place in Liverpool in April 2024 and it’s hoped both will have done enough to feature.Before that, though, there’s the Scottish Championships at the start of next year with further chance of medal success.Sarah said: “We were really happy with their performances and the way they bounced back from any wee blips and mistakes.

They both coped incredibly well with that.“Sophie was delighted with her medals and routines and Megan’s been managing an injury so to go there and get five medals
