West Lothian clubs learn South Challenge Cup opponents as season edges closer

A second round West Lothian derby battle between Broxburn Athletic and Whitburn was the standout tie as the draw was made for the first and second rounds of the South Challenge Cup.

The two sides met in the same competition last season with the Brox winning a thriller 3-2 at Central Park.With 163 teams vying for the trophy, it’s the largest cup competition in the country with all 12 non-league West Lothian sides taking part.There’s a derby fixture in the first round as Harthill Royal are at home to Blackburn United with East of Scotland Third Division sides Stoneyburn and West Calder United both handed home draws as they will take on Edinburgh United and Tweedmouth Rangers.Pumpherston have a tricky away tie against Arniston Rangers while Livi United have an intriguing clash at Linton Hotspur - who are entering their first season in senior football.Aside from the derby clash at Albyn Park, the second round draw also threw up some interesting ties - including a second potential derby as Armadale Thistle were drawn at home to the winner of the clash between Linton and Livi United.Harthill or Blackburn are at home to Ormiston Primrose or Tranent while Linlithgow Rose host Newtongrange.It’s Coldstream or Vale of Leithen away for Stoneyburn if they get the better of Edinburgh United, while Pumphy will be at Preston Athleic if they progress.

West Calder’s reward for beating Tweedmouth would be a trip to Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale while Bathgate Thistle and Fauldhouse United both have away ties.They’ll take on Hawick Royal Albert and Whitehill Welfare respectively after both sides were given a bye into the second round.
