Two women seriously injured after lorry and car involved in Ayrshire crash

Two women have been left seriously injured after the car they were in crashed with an HGV.A police investigation is underway following the serious crash on the A70 at Ochiltree.The smash on the A70 Ochiltree to Coalhill at the junction of The Killoch took place at around 1.30pm yesterday and involved a lorry and an MG ZS.The 59-year-old female driver and the 88-year-old female passenger of the MG ZS were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where their conditions are described as serious.The 30-year-old male driver of the HGV was not injured.The road was closed to allow for crash investigation to be carried out and reopened around midnight - almost 12 hours later.Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and officers are appealing for witnesses.Road Policing Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and who has not already spoken to police to get in touch.“I would also ask anyone who was travelling on the road around the time and who may have dash cam footage which could assist to contact us.”Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1705 of 4 June, 2024.
