The cause of Richard Simmons' death has been revealed, over a month after his death, which came one day after his 76th birthday.The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed his cause of death was under investigation at the time.
His death has now been ruled as an accident by the Los Angeles’ Medical Examiner, who have confirmed he died from being 'sequelae of blunt force traumatic injuries' due to a 'ground level fall'.The report also mentioned 'arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease' was a contribution to his death.Traces of prescription drugs used to treat insomnia were also found in his system which did not "appear" to have contributed to the cause of death.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office released the report on Thursday, which showed that the 76 year old had diphenhydramine, trazodone and zolpidem in his system, with no evidence of recreational drugs.
The wellness legend also had “a fracture of the left femur … There were incidental bilateral renal cortical cysts and a gallstone.” The report concluded that “for the purpose of public health and vital statistics, given the history and circumstances as currently known by me in the setting of the findings by examination and ancillary studies, the manner of death is classified as accident," PEOPLE reports.
