Train travel to cost more from March as rail fares to rise by almost 5 per cent

Rail fares in England are set to significantly increase in price next month. From March 3, regulated fares will rise by 4.9 per cent, according to the Department for Transport.

Increased prices will be seen on season tickets on most commuter journeys, some off-peak return tickets on long-distance routes, as well as flexible tickets for travel around major cities.

Unregulated tickets, which won't be directly affected by the rise, include first class, anytime tickets, advance tickets, and off-peak day tickets.
