An XL Bully dog was shot dead in the grounds of a primary school after attacking its elderly female owner yesterday. Police raced to the scene after reports of a woman being attacked by her pet in her garden while “screaming for help.” The woman, in her 60s, was mauled by the XL Bully, which then escaped from the house and was hunted by officers down to the car park of a local primary school.

The incident occurred in Dereham, Norfolk at 3pm on Monday, reports the Mirror. Students and staff were still inside Brisley Church of England Primary Academy at the time of the incident.

The dangerous dog was attached to a post when police attended. A vet was contacted to sedate the animal, but none were available.

School headteacher Belinda Allen said: "Our school staff were alerted by the police that there was a dangerous dog and immediately actioned staff to clear the area.
