Right under the noses of bosses, PC Adnan Ali was allowed to create his own fiefdom... a personal playground where he could sexually groom vulnerable teens - young wannabe cops often from difficult backgrounds who looked up to him and were fearful of speaking out. 'Adz', as he encouraged people to call him with his overfamiliar manner, used that freedom to do what calculating, insidious predators do - he targeted the vulnerable, quietly slipped into their DMs and started dropping references to massages and sex.

Often his charges mistook this for idiosyncratic, odd behaviour. Or 'constant weirdness', as one of his victims put it. They were either too naive or too afraid to admit the truth of what was happening - he was preparing them so he could abuse them. He is facing a jail sentence when he returns to court on June 23. His trial heard disturbing detail about how Ali had been left virtually unsupervised as he led the Trafford Volunteer Cadet Scheme from his second floor office at Stretford police station.

No sergeant or inspector at the station monitored his growing empire with any care, the jurors were told. "He had too much autonomy and abused it," prosecutor Anne Whyte KC told the jury at Liverpool Crown Court.
