Manchester's Market Street has been named one of the most polluted high streets in the country according to recent data. A study by GRIDSERVE found the city centre street had 7.6 micrograms of particulate matter per cubic meter of air (µg/m3).

The World Health Organisation’s recommended annual level of air pollution is 5µg/m3. It comes as 76 per cent of high streets in the UK's largest towns and cities were found to exceed the recommended limit - with Stoke-on-Trent being named the worst.
