A teenager has been awarded £10,000 in an out of court settlement after taking legal action over the state of his teeth. Toby Parker underwent a painful tooth extraction when he was 15.
But now a Greater Manchester dentist has paid him £10,000 after Toby alleged that the extraction could have been avoided if decay had been picked up earlier.
Toby, now, 18, claims the true condition of his teeth was only discovered after his mother took him to a dental hospital in 2021, seeking a second opinion over whether he needed braces.
It was confirmed that he didn't - but they did discover many other issues with his teeth that should have been previously treated. “The hospital diagnosed decay in a few of my teeth, which was luckily caught before it got worse,” Toby, from Stockport, said. “I also have hypomineralisation where the enamel on my teeth is soft and more prone to decay than normal. “They advised on a suitable treatment plan to have one of my teeth extracted, as well as fillings on three others.” Toby had been visiting the same dentist for more than a decade before that.
