Tributes have been paid to a beloved firefighter following his sudden death. Alister Lee, 54, was a watch manager based atCheadle Community Fire Station in Stockport.

He had served as a firefighter with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue (GMFRS) for more than 27 years. In a post on X - formerly Twitter - GMFRS said it was "deeply saddened" by Mr Lee's death.

It read: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague Watch Manager Alister Lee. READ MORE: They share the same MP, but people in these two Greater Manchester towns could not be more divided "Alister, aged 54, was based at Cheadle Community Fire Station and had served with GMFRS for more than 27 years.

Our thoughts are with Alister’s family, friends and colleagues at this terribly sad time." In a letter to members, the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) wrote: "Everybody in the FBU sends Alister's family, friends and colleagues our condolences, solidarity and support at this very sad time." Dave Pike, the FBU's Greater Manchester brigade secretary, added: "Alister was an FBU member for 27 years.
