Amy Dowden has opened up on how close to death she has come during her recent treatment for breast cancer. The Strictly star chatted exclusively to the Mirror ahead of her fifth round of chemotherapy.

The Welsh pro dancer, 33, shot to fame as a fan favourite when she joined the BBC ballroom competition in 2017 and fans and her Strictly colleagues have rallied as she's provided regular updates on her health battle.

She was diagnosed with grade three aggressive breast cancer in May and had a single mastectomy in June. Since then she's faced gruelling treatment, which lead to emergency hospital stays and life-threatening complications - sepsis then blood clots - after her first and second cycles of chemo.

Amy undergoes one cycle every other week and she admitted that she only feels good the night before each one because it takes that long to recover. “After both my first cycles I developed the life-threatening side-effects that can come with chemo, so I had it all in the first month,” she told the Mirror.
