Stirling Castle and esplanade set for closure as city hosts cycling world championship

Stirling Castle will be closed for three days next month due to the UCI Cycling World Championships.Historic Scotland have contacted members to inform them of the closure on Wednesday, August 9 to Friday, August 11.The roads around Stirling are set to host the time trial events between August 9 and August 11, with the world’s top pedallers set to take part on a route covering 48 kilometres of district roads.The Historic Scotland communication also points out that there will be no vehicle parking on the castle esplanade for 15 days: from Wednesday, August 2 until Wednesday, August 16.It states: “We encourage visitors to use public transport where possible.

If you are travelling by rail, Stirling Station is on Goosecroft Road near the city centre.“From here, the castle can be reached on foot or by bus.

Stirling Bus Station is also within walking distance of the castle.“If you are travelling by car, you can use the Castleview park and ride service (get off at the Old Town Jail, a five-minute walk from the castle entrance).“Please note the Park and Ride is closed on Sundays.
