South Ayrshire Council’s grounds maintenance team are causing a "public health risk" by the way they trim municipal patches of grass, it is claimed.One dog walker in Ayr claims to have witnessed aluminium cans of soft drinks and hard plastics being ‘shredded’ into “dangerous shards” by a council-deployed tractor and grass cutting attachment.And he reckons the shards left behind by the team could potentially be harmful to children and dogs.The resident said: “This is a common council practice as I’ve witnessed it before.
Luckily I had my phone with me to take pictures.“Whilst walking the dogs in Ayr on Friday, on the grass areas opposite Seafield stores, the council grass cutting was in operation.
They hadn’t bothered clearing the litter before commencing.“This led to metal cans and hard plastic bottles getting cut up into dangerous shards.
