Taylor Swift

Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which have received widespread media coverage. At age 14, Swift became the youngest artist signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house and, at 15, she signed her first record deal.

Her 2006 eponymous debut album was the longest-charting album of the 2000s in the US. Its third single, "Our Song", made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008.

Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", it became the US' best-selling album of 2009 and was certified diamond in the US. The album won four Grammy Awards, and Swift became the youngest Album of the Year winner.

Soldier, 18, was on 'unescorted' weekend leave from psychiatric hospital when he died on railway line

A soldier who died on a railway line had been on 'unescorted leave' from a psychatric hospital, a pre-inquest review was told.

Thamir Mbarushimana, 18, died on tracks near his home in Wythenshawe on Sunday, February 16, last year. The teenager, described by his heartbroken family as a 'wonderful' young man with a 'heart of gold', was a private who had just started training at the Infantry Training Centre at the British Army's Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire. But a pre-inquest review heard at the time of his death he was a voluntary in-patient at the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Trust who had been been given 'unescorted' weekend leave to visit his family in Wythenshawe.

Sitting in Manchester, Assistant Coroner Nick Stanage was told Thamir didn't want medics to tell his parents he was coming from West Park Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in Darlington.

Sefton Kwasnik, representing Thamir's family, told the hearing his clients wanted answers at the full inquest about how he came to be allowed home for the weekend on 'unescorted' home leave.
