Ex-Rangers star Bilel Mohsni said he didn’t understand how deep Old Firm rivalry ran until police stopped him watching a game at Celtic Park.The defender had not been in Glasgow long when he bought Parkhead tickets to see a pal in a European tie against the Bhoys.
But he was forced to miss the match when officers intercepted him near the ground and warned him to stay away.Tunisian international Mohsni told The Draft podcast: “I wasn’t able to go watch the game because I was a Rangers player.“I didn’t understand that.
The police told me, ‘No, you don’t pass here. You will have so much trouble that we will not be able to help you.“The fans will see you as a Rangers [player] and will threaten you … and some of them will try to hit you.’”Mohsni, 36, has just retired from the game.
The 6ft 3in centre-back signed for Gers in 2013 and spent two seasons with the club.In 2021, ex-Celtic star Chris Sutton was banned from Ibrox over what were called “safety reasons” when he was due to carry out TV work for BT Sport.
