Shouting and screaming before man suffers serious head injury in Manchester street

Neighbours heard "shouting and screaming" moments before an attack on a man in Longsight today. The victim, in his 30s, was rushed to hospital with a head injury.

The incident happened outside Oakland House Care Home on Dickenson Road at about 11am. Emergency services were called to the scene and another man, in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of assault.

Police cordoned off a large part of the road between Clarence Road and Birch Hall Lane. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 11am this morning (Monday 24 July 2023) officers were called to reports that a man had been assaulted on Dickenson Road, Manchester. "A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital with an injury to his head, which is believed not to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains on police custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing at this stage." One man who lives in the block of flats beside the cordon said he heard “lots of screaming and shouting and people raising their voices” before 11am.
