A football fan died and three others were injured following a car crash at a Scots football ground yesterday. The 76-year-old passed away after crashing his car outside Palmerston Park in Dumfries, while two 12-year-old's were rushed to hospital.
The man had been at Dumfries side Queen of the South's Scottish Cup clash with Dundee United and is believed to have suffered a heart attack at the wheel while driving his car in the car park after the game.The incident happened at around 6pm in the car park opposite the ground's main stand.Dundee United's team doctor was one of the first on the scene as members of the public and stewards also raced to help those affected by the incident.A 46-year-old man was also taken to hospital for treatment and, along with the youngsters, is described by police as having suffered "non-life threatening injuries".
The man is understood to have reversed his car out of his parking space before the vehicle then began to travel erratically at speed.One eyewitness said: "You don't expect to come to a game and hear one dead and two injured.
The Dundee United doctor was one of the first ones on the scene."Someone heard the doctor shout for help. Security and steward also rushed to help.
