It’s great to see an acclaimed veteran filmmaker really get their due, especially one in their ’70s. Now, in the documentary world, Sam Pollard is something of a household name.

Diane Garrett On Friday, during the 18th edition of the Camden Intl. Film Festival, organizers unveiled a Diane Weyermann Fellowship at Points North Institute.Weyermann, the former chief content officer at Participant and former director of the Sundance Institute’s documentary film program, died last October of cancer.

“Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power” will screen on Peacock later in 2022.

EXCLUSIVE: Peacock has acquired the civil rights documentary Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power ahead of its world premiere next week at the Tribeca Festival. A streaming release date will be announced soon for the pic, which is presented by Participant, a Multitude Films production, in association with The Atlantic and will bow on the streamer as a Peacock Original.

The full Tribeca Film Festival lineup of 109 feature films from 40 countries and 88 world premieres for the 2022 event that takes place June 9-18 has been announced. It’ll be interesting to see if some of the films at the festival will end up being popular breakouts, land major studio/streamer distribution, or eventually move on to get recognized during awards season.

direct to your inboxA fugitive who sparked a huge manhunt after escaping custody and going on the run for 10 days has been put behind bars.Cody Lowndes, 22, was arrested in July this year for the 'central role' he played in a high-value car robbery gang.He handled seven stolen cars - believed to be worth around £140,000 in total - and advertised them for sale on social media, a court heard.He was arrested for these offences but then escaped from police custody during a hospital visit.This sparked a huge manhunt and Lowndes was arrested 10 days later, after appearing to taunt police in an Instagram video.

hereThe offences were outlined in court by prosecutor David Morgan.His solicitor Rebecca Wrack made no application for bail.The chair of the bench Carolyn Greene remanded Mr Lowdes, who wore a grey tracksuit in the dock, into custody until August 19 when he is due to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester.
