Scotland fan who broke back in horror crash in Germany undergoes operation

A young Scotland fan has undergone surgery in Germany after breaking his back in a horror crash on his way to the Euros. Gary Ellis, from Dundee, is said to be recovering well from the operation which took place on Monday, June 17.

The 23-year-old had jetted off from Edinburgh Airport with four pals on Thursday en route to Dusseldorf to support the national team.But he ended up hospitalised following the head-on collision, which involved a rental Citroen C3 and an S-class Mercedes outside Weeze Airport.

Gary, who was a passenger, was taken to hospital alongside the 25-year-old driver of the car, who also suffered serious injuries.German police said the Scots used the "wrong lane" after their rental car was driven towards oncoming traffic when they left the airport.

Following the incident, Gary's mum Mandy Coleman, has confirmed that her son has since received surgery for his injuries.Writing on Facebook, Mandy said: "Just a quick update on Gary.
