A council which is home to the largest Jewish population in Scotland has cancelled a gig by a comedian who lambasted Israel in a show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Reginald D Hunter was involved in a spat with two audience members when he likened Israel to an abusive partner.A couple in the front row shouted “not funny” but were lambasted by other concert-goers and left.
Next month, Hunter was due to appear at a council-owned hall in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire. Following a severe reaction to the incident on social media, the local authority last night stepped in to cancel the show.
A spokesperson for East Renfrewshire Council said: ”We’ve taken the decision to cancel Eastwood Park Theatre’s scheduled show featuring Reginald D Hunter on Saturday, September 28, due to controversial comments made during a recent performance.
