Fire crews swarm busy city centre street with building evacuated

Fire crews swarmed a street in Manchester city centre on Thursday afternoon (September 5) as a high rise office building was evacuated.

Emergency services descended on Portland Street after the small blaze broke out at the Manchester One building, near to Piccadilly Gardens.

It is understood the fire broke out in one of the offices on the 17th floor, and involved a microwave, which was seen on the ground outside the building afterwards. No injuries were reported in the incident. A number of firefighters were seen going into the building shortly after, with a microwave seen on the ground outside.
