A woman arrested behind the wheel of her Audi A1 after police smelt cannabis has been spared a driving ban after arguing she hadn't been smoking the drug at the time.

Business development administrator Steadman-Dempsey tested three-and-a-half times the drug-driving limit after passing police officers detected 'a strong smell of cannabis' and approached her car as she was parked up with friends in Mossley, Tameside, on January 8.

At Tameside magistrates' court last Thursday Steadman-Dempsey, of Seddon Avenue, Openshaw, faced a ban after she admitted being in charge of a vehicle when over the limit for cannabis, but was slapped with 10 points on her driving licence.
