Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood, who rocks the stage as a guitarist and keyboardist, has had to put his tour with The Smile on hold due to a serious health scare.

The 52 year old musician, also famed for his film score compositions, was touring with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, 55, and Sons of Kemet's dynamic drummer Tom Skinner, 33, when he was struck down by an infection.

In a heartfelt statement released on Friday, 12 July, The Smile shared: "A few days ago, Jonny became seriously ill from an infection that needed emergency hospital treatment, some of it in intensive care." They continued with relief, "Mercifully he is now out of danger and will soon return home." The band's message, underscored by concern for Jonny's wellbeing, went on: "We have been instructed by the medical team in charge of Jonny's care to cancel all engagements until he has had time to make a full recovery." Consequently, they announced, "To that end, The Smile tour of Europe in August is cancelled.

Refunds for headline shows will be available from your Ticket provider." Ending on a hopeful note, they added, "We all wish Jonny a speedy recovery." This news, along with well-wishes for Jonny, was echoed across social media, with both Radiohead's Instagram and Thom's personal account spreading the word.
