Primary school given £1000 to make anniversary gala day float extra special

A local primary school has been handed £1000 to make its 60th anniversary gala day float extra special.Windyknowe Primary in Bathgate was announced as one of Persimmon’s Community Champions – receiving a £1,000 donation from the local house builder.The school has been fundraising for their float at this year’s Bathgate procession.Windyknowe, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, is paying homage to its history with a 1960s-themed float that will see pupils, parents, and teachers alike take to the streets of Bathgate in clothes from the swinging sixties.Their float, made from wood, fabric, paper mache, and other materials, will be placed off the back of a tractor trailer due to its size and complexity.The £1,000 donation from Persimmon East Scotland is part of their Community Champions programme, which supports good causes in areas where the company builds new homes.

The scheme has seen over £1.5 million donated to local charities, clubs, and organisations across the UK since 2021.Jenna Dowie and Arlene White (The Float Club) at Windyknowe Primary School, said: We are absolutely delighted to receive this donation from Persimmon.

Windyknowe have not had a float in Bathgate Procession since before the pandemic began.
