Portugal has become the latest European country to issue a warning to UK tourists to "cancel holidays" and stay away. Residents from popular European Union holiday destination has joined those in Spain and Greece to express concern over British holidaymakers causing "crowds" and "traffic" across the country during the summer getaway season.

Community group QSintra has recently released a statement criticising "mass tourism", declaring that "enough is enough". It described the area as a "congested amusement park", with locals experiencing a decline in their quality of life. QSintra has put forward several demands to local authorities, including a shift from mass tourism to "quality tourism". They called for "protection for the environment, better planning for hotels and buildings", and urged for the promotion of "permanent rentals".

The statement went on to say: "Leaving Sintra without inhabitants and turning it into a mere congested amusement park is certainly not the path to quality tourism nor to preserving the environment, culture, landscape and authenticity of this unique place." In response to the warning, a Briton commented: "I guess replacing mass tourism with "quality tourism" no English.", reports Birmingham Live.
