"It was an unbelievable experience," Joe Lewis said, reflecting on his time with Manchester United last season. The 36-year-old goalkeeper was invited to train with the first-team to maintain his fitness during a testing campaign for the club and was a fly on the wall at Carrington.

What truly goes on behind the scenes at Carrington is gold dust information and United supporters are always desperate to get a peak behind the curtain into daily life at the club.

Lewis regularly drove into Carrington, along the narrow road that has farmland on either side, for six months and has priceless stories on chatting to Bruno Fernandes in the canteen, opening his eyes to Andre Onana's training methods and how bad results affected the squad.

The Manchester Evening News contacted Lewis after the conclusion of his training arrangement with United and he kindly agreed to be interviewed about his stint at Carrington. "I knew him from years ago and he told me that Radek Vitek was chomping at the bit to go on loan, which meant they'd be a goalkeeper light in training. "Instead of dragging up a young ‘keeper from the Under-18s or Under-21s and disrupting their routine for matchdays, he asked whether I'd be interested in my name being chucked in." Lewis relocated to Wilmslow, Cheshire, where his wife's family are from, after leaving Aberdeen in the summer of 2023.
