Popular Ayrshire vegetarian and vegan cafes get permission for evening openings

Owners of a niche vegetarian cafe have been granted a provisional premises licence for both their North Ayrshire operations after confirming they will take on new staff.Owners of Moka revealed at the North Ayrshire Licensing Board meeting that they have been successfully running a vegetarian and plant-based cafe in Princes Street, Ardrossan for three years and recently opened their doors in Main Street, Largs.Anmol Panesar appeared at the board with wife Joanne, the co-owner.The couple have around a decade of experience in selling alcohol and previously ran a small cafe in Australia.Mr Panesar said: “The reason we are applying for a liquor licence is to expand our offerings. “We currently do breakfast and lunch, but we want to expand to dinners as well and that’s where the alcohol will help us attract a wider range of clientele.“People in Ardrossan have asked us if we could open for dinner, and also introduce vegan wines and alcoholic drinks.

There are not many places who do that and not a big market for it.“People who have allergens avoid pubs for these reasons.”Mr Panesar added: “Adding alcohol will allow us to take on more staff at both our venues and create employment opportunities locally.“We also have been in touch with Ayrshire College where we will send our team to get more training on dealing with alcohol. “Both venues will have two personal licence holders and there will always be someone with the correct training.“We are also planning club nights, quiz nights, and charity functions.
