Two major city centre roads were shut off this evening following reports of concern for welfare over a woman on a bridge. Emergency services were called to the A635 Mancunian Way Westbound at around 5:54pm on Sunday (January 28) following calls for a concern for welfare.

The Mancunian Way Westbound and Upper Brook Street were closed temporarily as officers worked to bring the woman to safety. Greater Manchester Police said the woman had since been safely brought down from a bridge and was left in the care of colleagues at the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Both roads have since reopened, and traffic is easing in the area. Try MEN Premium now for FREE... just click here to give it a go. Road closures were in place, including on the Mancunian Way and Upper Brook Street, but these roads have now reopened." Samaritans (116 123) samaritans.org operates a 24-hour service available every day of the year.
