Perth and Kinross Council warned to 'step up' as region braced for further rainstorms and floods this week

Perth and Kinross is once again bracing itself for rainstorms and flash floods after further weather warnings were issued this week.And local figures are piling pressure on the council to be ready this time.SEPA yesterday issued a flood warning, with Storm Babet set to bring “heavy rain and strong winds” from Wednesday evening into the weekend.The Met Office also issued their three day-long ‘Yellow’ alert with warnings of “extremely heavy rain.”It begins on Thursday from 6am and will end on Saturday at 11.59pm with the national weather service adding there is a “small chance” of extensive flooding to homes and businesses which may lead to “collapse or damage to buildings or structures”.The Met Office warning - which covers Tayside, the southern Highlands and Aberdeenshire - reads: “There is a small chance that communities could be completely cut off, perhaps for several days.“There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater, causing a danger to life.“There is a slight chance that power and other essential services, such as gas, water and mobile phone service will be lost.“Where flooding occurs, road closures are likely, along with bus and train service delays and cancellations.“Dangerous driving conditions could occur because of spray and flooded roads.”The heaviest rainfall is more likely to occur over Angus and southeast Grampian, although even lower lying areas could see “unusually heavy” rainfall during this period.The impending torrential weather incursion comes less than two weeks after Perth and Kinross was devastated by flash floods following an amber alert.Residents and businesses alike from across the county are still dealing with the aftermath.In Perth, the council drew the ire of furious residents
