Weather experts have confirmed that snowfall is on the way for Scotland this week as temperatures begin to drop. Met Office forecasters have said that an "unsettled" week is on the horizon thanks to colder conditions and the arrival of Storm Ciaran, prompting a string of alerts for rain and wind over the next few days.

And although the worst of the storm is set to hit in southern England, conditions are expected to cool down across northern Scotland in the coming days - bringing "a touch of frost" and even some snow.

The Met Office confirmed the news in a recent weather forecast, with meteorologist Alex Burkill explaining that the "drier, clearer weather" across the far north of Scotland could make things turn "a little chilly" today (October 31).

He said: "A drier, sunnier picture across parts of Scotland, a few showers piling down on the northerly wind, but that northerly wind is also going to lead to a chillier feel to things."Overnight, wind and rain is expected to spread its way "across many parts of the UK", but that areas in the far north of Scotland may hold on to the clearer weather which could result in "a touch of frost" early on Wednesday morning and even some snow later in the day.
