Steve Stamp is back with a second series of the sharply funny gym-set comedy Peacock. Following the three-episode first series shown in 2022, the show picks up the story of personal trainer Andy Peacock (Allan Mustafa), who suffered an identity crisis when a younger and fitter trainer named Jay ( Lucien Laviscount ) joined the gym team. “Andy is a car crash of a man,” says Steve about the character. “You can play out the worst things that you could have possibly done in situations through Andy.” The surprisingly unhealthy personal trainer spends his days seething with jealousy at his gym rival, chatting to his best friend Spooner (Thomas Gray) and occasionally training clients, including awkward Jonathan, who is played by Steve himself. “Jonathan is me in the sense that I don’t really go to the gym that much,” Steve confesses. “I deliberately wrote him as someone who is quite weak, both physically and personality wise.

It’s a fun thing to play out being a complete doormat.” He doesn’t hesitate to put Jonathan into awkward situations, either, including a very funny sex scene in a car in an upcoming episode. “If you’re writing for yourself, you know what you’re comfortable doing,” he explains. “You can write yourself a really awkward sex scene and know that it’s not going to be an issue.
