A pensioner is embroiled in a housing dispute over his mould-infested council flat. Alan Matthews is demanding action from the authority over his home, where black mould and mushrooms have sprouted on the damp walls.Alan, 76, has lived in the flat in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent for a decade, but he first started having issues three years ago when his upstairs neighbour's wetroom began to leak.
The issue became so severe that his neighbour's poo ended up in his bath due to the leaks. The veteran is in the midst of a dispute with the city council and is waiting on the outcome of the authority's insurance claims.
He has been forced to spend time living in local hotels after being unable to stay in his home and has developed a cough and a chest infection, which he believes are linked to the damp conditions, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.Alan said: “The problems started when my neighbour in the flat above had a wetroom fitted and it leaked.
The water came into my property and completely ruined the walls. Black mould grew and the council sent someone out, knocked it back to brick, and then replastered. "In 2022, another leak happened - this time more severe - to the point where my carpet was damaged.
