Parents across the UK are being warned not to overlook important letters from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), as failing to act could mean missing out on over £1,300 in child benefit payments.
Around 1.4 million families with children sitting their GCSEs this summer will receive these letters, which serve as a reminder to confirm their eligibility for continued support.
Child benefit can provide up to £1,331 annually for the eldest child and £881 per additional sibling. However, parents of 16 year olds must update their information to keep receiving this aid.
Those responsible for teenagers who will remain in approved education or training post-16 must inform the government to maintain their child benefit claims.
